repair and wheelchair maintenance tips Wipe any excess dirt or grime
from your wheelchair, which can compromise the smooth movement, create rust
and damage moving parts.
Ensure the axel and axel plate on your wheelchair is tight. Loose
wheelchair axels can snap under the stress of movement.
Add air to your wheelchair's tires when low. Flat or low tires use up
excess battery power and make wheelchairs hard to push.
Tighten squeaky nuts and bolts so they don't fall off or get lost.
Keep the seat and backrest of your wheelchair tight. A loose seat or
backrest can harm your posture and provide insufficient body support.
If you can't physically perform wheelchair maintenance on your own, ask
a friend or family member to help you out. If there's no one to lend a hand,
seek out a neighbor or local handyman to give your wheelchair a once over for
a small fee. This is better then forking out hundreds of dollars in repair
costs once it's too late. |
